Born with a passion for art and a fascination with ancient Egyptian culture and the mythology of the West, Mr. Anjo´s journey into the world of creativity began at an early age. Launching his own Australian label, he mastered graphics and pattern design, finding immediate success in Melbourne’s boutique fashion scene. But it was the deep personal experience of his father´s illness that gave rise to a transformative form of expression. The artist not only began to see the world from the outside, but suddenly also from the inside and dared to look, in the words of the famous epistemologist Konrad Lorenz, at the „back of the mirror“. This has become groundbreaking for Anjo, because what began in his youth as an ardent interest in past cultures and various philosophical models of thought manifested itself in the encounter with his own fragility and vulnerability, as a form of artistic expression.
The finite nature of our own existence, the question of where we are going and where we are coming from, is the same across all eras. Anjo deals with these questions in his complete works, divided into different cycles such as Greek mythology, great rulers of history or the film icons of Holywood in the golden 20s. Also how we deal with challenges, defeats and ultimately the inevitable finiteness. The heroes of his works are historical personalities who symbolize all the agregate states of human existence. And so his work tells storys of hope, perseverance, and optimism, offering light amid life’s greatest challenges.
Anjo´s oil pastels, acrylics, calligraphy, and metallic paints are a bold fusion of modern color palettes and historical sentimentality, inspired by Gustav Klimt´s rich use of Gold as well as the strong iconographic symbolism of Egyptian artifacts. He blends realism, cubism, pop art and semi-abstract styles to a unique way of contemporary expression. Mr. Anjo`s work is as technically sophisticated as it is emotionally compelling. His oil pastels explode with color and texture, while his acrylics bring each composition to life with energy and boldness. But it´s the ancient Ankh symbol – woven throughout his entire oeuvre – that acts as the key to life and as the visual heartbeat of his works, symbolizing both eternity and the perpetual human struggle to balance hope and adversity.
Through his work, he masterfully conveys the juxtaposition of optimism and adversity, inviting viewers to explore their own inner journeys. “I want my art to reflect life’s dualities – the brightness of hope and the shadows of challenges. Both are essential to our human experience,” says Mr. Anjo.
Though firmly rooted in the art world, Mr. Anjo remains an urban nomad, drawing inspiration from every corner of the globe. His art reflects the diversity of his experiences while embodying a universal message of hope, resilience, and beauty. „Art is an eternal conversation, it’s about connecting with people, telling stories, and leaving something timeless behind”, reflects the artist.
