Dietmar Brixy

Dietmar Brixy’s works are powerful, dynamic and vibrant. Committed to abstraction at first glance, concrete forms can nevertheless be recognized and guessed at. Despite these enormous ruptures of color, surfaces and lines that intertwine, merge and open up again, every brush stroke is exactly where it belongs. There is no chaos here, but order in a system that Brixy draws from the depths of his soul and brings to the surface. His worlds of color are lived impressions and emotional experiences, encounters and reflections. In the tradition of classical Western philosophy, he asks himself the question: “What is happiness and is man allowed to be happy at all? The answers can be found in his paintings, colorful, positive, living in the absolute “here” and “now”. To use the words of the renowned Hungarian-American psychologist Mihály Csikszentmihalyi, Brixy’s paintings create the famous flow that triggers a mysterious state of happiness.

Through the unconventional use of color and structure, Brixy creates a maximum emotional impact and invites us to go on a journey through his pictorial worlds. The canvases become a kind of visual diary, reflecting the memories and impressions of his journey in abstract form. Travelling and encounters with the diversity of foreign cultures have always been an inspiration for artists.

Brixy mostly works in cycles, after which he titles his paintings. His works rarely have individual titles, but are named after the respective series of works. Some series are not complete and new works are constantly being added. Although the individual cycles build on each other chronologically, they constantly influence each other anew.

Brixy not only travels to distant destinations around the world, but also into the often unfathomable depths of our souls. He admits what he sees and feels there and transports it to the surface in the form of powerful color ruptures. Not only to the surface of the picture medium but to the surface of our being. In this way, his works touch us in many ways: the viewer is stimulated and inspired, unexpected worlds open up and an endless journey begins for those who get involved … not somewhere but to one’s own self.
